Rice Queen has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Commis Chef to join the team at our busy Fitzroy restaurant.
Rice Queen is a fun packed, kitsch Pan-Asian restaurant that is open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week. Our share style menu draws inspiration from all across Asia mixed with a modern twist. We pride ourselves on offering an accessible menu that everyone can enjoy.
You will be working with experienced ownership and management; within an established hospitality group that is looking for talent that can progress within the company.
Located in beautiful Brunswick St; getting to and from work is a cinch, with parking available or public transport 3 metres from the front door! You'll join a young, friendly and vibrant team, supported by a structured management system, complimented by our fast-paced environment
This is an exceptional career opportunity for a determined and energetic chef who likes to be challenged on a daily basis. We are also happy to discuss sponsorship opportunities with the right applicant.
Key responsibilities of our Commis Chef include but are not limited to:
- All food is to be produced strictly according to the documented standard recipes provided by the Sous Chef
- Be skilled in multiple sections of the kitchen, maintaining a high level of standard and consistency as set by the Sous Chef and Head Chef.
- Assist and Monitor food stocks and stock movement to minimise kitchen wastage
- Ensuring the maintenance of both high productivity and good staff morale
- Working as part of a team to ensure that all tasks are completed in order of priority and within an allotted time frame
- Being self-motivated, able to follow directions and work as part of the team
- Monitoring all deliveries for quality, quantity/weight, and freshness; and politely rejecting any item(s) that are not up to the agreed standard;
- Maintaining the organisation, cleanliness and security of all goods storage areas;
- Ensuring that all food handling procedures are carried out in accordance with the food safety plan;
- Adhering to occupational health and safety guidelines, as outlined in the induction manual and other policies
Successful applicants must have:
- Experience in high quality food
- A flexible approach to their work
- Trade qualifications & a current food safety certificate
- Available to work a variety of shifts
- Function & high volume experience
- A proven background in a similar role
- Excellent communication skills
